Located in Blount County south of Knoxville, Alcoa is a city with an estimated population of 8,449. As part of the Knoxville, Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area, Alcoa is the site of a large aluminum smelting plant owned and operated by the Alcoa corporation. The area was formerly known as North Maryville before being incorporated under its present name in 1919.

Founded in 1985, the Blount County Genealogical and Historical Society is a non-profit organization and an affiliate of the Blount County Public Library, with all proceeds used to benefit the Library. The society aims to bring together persons interested in genealogical studies and in the collection and preservation of genealogical and historical materials pertaining to Blount County.
