Old Hollywood Theater

A large, long, and narrow room provided a perfect space to create a media room for this family. The wall were extremely bright and one wall is almost entirely door for closets and crawlspaces. The clients wanted a space where friends and family could gather comfortable to watch movies together. They also liked to entertain and sometimes eat or serve food so they could relax in front of the television. There was no focal point in the space, and since it was so large, needed to be divided into zones that would work well for the couple. They had a good bit of media equipment that needed a space, as well as many DVDs.

The main wall was painted a very dark grey, with a softer walls a more medium gray. All of the trim and doors were painted a black to add depth to the space. I created a focal point using the media center where all of the equipment could be housed, along with the DVDs and other storage. Flanking the media console are custom plush red velvet drapery panels tied with a large decorative tasseled tiebacks and hung from a convex drapery rod to give the panels depth. I designed custom sized frames to surround vintage movie strip wallpaper panels on the longest wall, along with custom painted black pilasters to give the panels depth. This was to mimic the look and feel of movie theater architecture. I also custom made movie icon stars for the many closet doors so they appeared as if they were dressing rooms for the stars! I used the clients favorite iconic Old Hollywood actors. A high bar and barstools were placed behind the power reclining leather seating area as an eating area while watching movies. A popcorn machine, a large candy jar, and a few metal movie reels provide the finishing touches to this fun entertainment room.
