Gentleman’s Bedroom

We were asked to participate in a Designer Show House for the Knoxville Symphony League. As participating designers, we donate a significant portion of our proceeds to the League (this was one of two guest bedrooms we were asked to design for the Show House that year). We designed this room from a blueprint drawing, as the home was in the beginning stage of construction during the design phase. We wanted the room to be a luxury bedroom that anyone would love to have.

A overall space plan was conceived to attract a large audience to this guest bedroom in the Show House. It is filled with luxury details that any gentleman might enjoy, with all the charm of an old English sitting room. Out inspiration was the tortoise from oval drum table with 3-drawer design in elm burl, oak burl, and bleached walnut burl veneers; finely cast lost-wax technique turtle feet, head, and drawer pulls. It is a piece that is exquisite and not only as a functional piece, but a piece of art. The fully upholstered bed with nail heads serves as the focal point in the room with bedding of oat, bisque, saddle leather, oak, and wheat color combinations. Textures of leather, antique brass, and velvet brown ribbon grace the pillows and bedding. The bed is flanked by two Spanish etageres in a Torinio mahogany finish with solid brass casters. Paired at the foot of the bed is a pair of x-based square tubed metal frame, centered with a brass rosette and a rustic chocolate leather seat. The biscuit-tufted croc leather chair takes it’s place next to the tortoise chest as a comfortable and relaxing seating area. The windows are finished with a charred woven wood shade to add even more texture and luxury to the room. The artwork is taken from nature featuring oversized tree rings, geodes, and a natural birch wood frame.
