Project Overview:

This couple had recently purchased this lakeside home sight unseen. The home was beautiful and spacious, but they envisioned this home as their retirement home, and they wanted the transition to be done right. At the beginning of working with us, they already knew that they wanted to repaint it all, recarpet some areas, as well as refinish the floors. However, they also discovered that were some areas without overhead lighting, a lot of peculiar wall niches, and a few other changes they would like to have before officially moving in. They had a whole house of furniture back home, but after living with those furnishings for so long, they wanted a fresh start here. This couple has grandchildren and plans to have her father move in later, so selections needed to be durable, and comfortable, but the couple also wanted a bit of wow factor with an organic touch. This family room was an awkward shape and had lots of focal points, so finding the perfect layout was paramount.

This organic contemporary family room uses warm neutrals in charcoal, cognac brown, cream, and light gray. To best fit the size of this space, a custom cut rug 12’x12′ was cut featuring a marble motif and anchors the space. On the one long wall in the room, a 108″ media cabinet in dove grey gives additional storage and makes a focal point of the television wall. The fireplace received a facelift through the project with stacked pencil stone applied to the face as well as the addition of new switches and a stunning piece of art on top of the mantel. The art work sits in front of a window, so at certain times of day, this piece of art glows. Ample seating is provided by the Scandinavian wooden arm chair by the fireplace, the pair of chairs facing the television, and the luxurious caramel leather sofa aligned with the counter. The stain on the wooden legs is matched to the color of the leather sofa, as well as the seating in the breakfast nook to tie the whole space together. The coffee table is a dark wire brushed finish with layers of ovals stacked to create a flow and movement through the space. The end table has a dark emperador marble top that flanks the sofa and has a matching marble and dark bronze lamp. A round antiqued mirror top table provides table storage for the pair of chairs, and a touch of whimsy is added with the figure table by the Scandinavian wooden arm chair. Like the rest of the house, the windows feature Hunter Douglas Parkland blinds and a custom faux iron treatment that is also above the door to the patio.
