Farmhouse Family Room

This farmhouse inspired family room uses charcoal, black, steel blue, white, and taupe in the new larger scaled coffee table, end tables, wool rug, and window treatments to create a cohesive space. Proper scaled pieces utilize the space more efficiently, providing extra seating and table top space for the homeowners.

Project Overview:

This client had purchased this literal farmhouse, complete with the acreage and the horses, right before covid. He is a builder by trade, and the house was in desperate need of renovations. They had worked on the house before meeting with us, and sculpted it to their needs with new details and brought the whole house up to date inside and out. However, now that they were at the final stage, they were having trouble bringing it all together. Their previous home was red and gold, but now she wanted to go cool, and grey. They had purchased furniture for the new space, but it just wasn’t working. Their pieces were either too small or too large, and she was frustrated going from furniture store to furniture store to try and bring it all together. She wanted a home that felt cohesive from one room to the next, that felt luxurious with hints of farmhouse.

This farmhouse family room uses charcoal, black, steel blue, white, and taupe in new larger scaled casegoods, a wool rug, and window treatments to create a cohesive space. This family room is part of both a breakfast nook, kitchen, and dining space so flow needed to be created through all four of these spaces. The consistent color scheme through out the space brought it all together, and by using mostly neutral colors with pops of color, the space was able to feel larger than before. Proper scaled pieces also utilize the space more efficiently, providing extra seating and more table top space for the homeowners. The small 36″ coffee table was replaced with a statement coffee table at 60″ wide, and the small side tables were reallocated in the house and replaced with two larger more stable end tables that match the coffee table. The small 52″ console under the tv was replaced by a pair of closed geometric black cabinets allow for extra storage that isnt on display, as well as visually anchoring the television above it. A hidden piece of extra seating is found in the custom upholstered storage ottomans hidden under the built-in shelving on either side of the fireplace. One of the largest impacts was the large 12’x15′ hand tufted wool rug underfoot. The original rug, though also beautiful, much too small at 8’x10′ but anchors the adjacent dining space perfectly. The final touches are provided by the beautiful faux silk taupe draperies with an embroidered tape, and the accessories and artwork that carry the emotion and delicate balance of glamorous and farmhouse.
