Project Overview:

This couple had recently purchased this lakeside home sight unseen. The home was beautiful and spacious, but they envisioned this home as their retirement home, and they wanted the transition to be done right. At the beginning of working with us, they already knew that they wanted to repaint it all, recarpet some areas, as well as refinish the floors. However, they also discovered that were some areas without overhead lighting, a lot of peculiar wall niches, and a few other changes they would like to have before officially moving in. They had a whole house of furniture back home, but after living with those furnishings for so long, they wanted a fresh start here. This couple has grandchildren and plans to have her father move in later, so selections needed to be durable, and comfortable, but the couple also wanted a bit of wow factor with an organic touch.

A variety of textures and materials in warm black, mustard, taupe, and cream combine geometric shapes, organic elements, and natural stone for an earthy and relaxing private oasis. The silk upholstered headboard features a slightly metallic taupe stain with a contrasting black band that runs concentrically along the shape of the headboard. This same detailed is replicated in the larger nightstands that flank the bed, as well as the double dresser that mirrors it. The silver square handles give a bright contemporary look to these pieces. Above each nightstand is a piece of art that features a shadowbox with layers of intricately cut paper atop a linen matt with a black frame that repeats the detail in bed. The rectangular bedside lamps feature the natural striations in the gray travertine paired with dark bronze. The homeowners frequently go on ski trips and the abstract painting above the two-toned dresser reminds them of one of their favorite peaks. Bold mustard stationary drapery panels with a fringed performance fabric tape flank either side of the picture window. This window also features Hunter Douglas Parkland blinds and a custom faux iron treatment that is also above the door to the patio. These custom faux iron window treatments are used in every transom on the first floor to unify the spaces inside and visually from the curb. Finally, comfort is provided by the mohair storage bench at the foot of the bed as well as the barrel chair in an organic modern geometric fabric with a small bronze drink table. Lighting is provided by an all-metal floor lamp in dark bronze.
