Bohemian Modern Family Room
The client had moved into this home with the intentions of updating. The family room had a ladder to a loft projecting into part of the room. The ceiling fans were not their style, as she wanted a more natural, lodge feel. The fireplace was awkward and unwelcoming. The room also had a galley kitchen with a very large bulkhead cutting off the visual look of the space(s).
To keep with the natural feel that the client wanted for the space, I first began with the juxtaposed tribal area rugs to give the space pattern and interest. The fireplace was white-washed, softening the look, and a large custom chevron cut wood wall art with coordinating colors gave height to the fireplace wall and helped to blend the finishes on the loft ladder and the mantel. A tall wood and metal tower to the left of the fireplace on a short wall gave additional height and balance, all while making use of a space that was awkward. A hand-woven wall hanging completes the balance on the fireplace wall, as well as a metal sculpture of birds in flight over the television. Twig candleholders with birch flameless candles, free-form metal sculptures, faux fur pillows and throw, and a suede deer pillow give warmth to the space.
