Project Overview:

This client was building this home from scratch and was overwhelmed with all of the options and selections involved in building your home. She knew what she wanted, the only problem was she liked too many things, and she wanted to make sure that the final home was consistent throughout and would accommodate her and her husband as he aged through his Parkinson’s diagnosis. As such the layout and space needed to be wide open, and accessible from standing, and potentially sitting in a wheelchair later on. She wanted the home to have a cozy rustic flair, but be bright, and not overly distressed.

The builder that the client was working with had a good relationship with a local cabinet maker as well as a vendor for the appliances, and counter tops. As such she needed help with lighting, stools, and the selections of the finishes at his vendors.

This client wanted a modern craftsman home with rustic touches that felt timeless. We opted for a warm taupe for the cabinets with accents of oak featured on the island, range hood, and oven tower. We continued this color onto the butcher block top on a custom storage piece in an aged turquoise. Comfort was a key component in selecting low back curved counter-stools for this client in a shimmery glass slipper leather and charcoal finish. This coordinates with the iron metal selected for the hardware pulls, sink base, and lighting. We opted for two lantern chandeliers above the island to provide extra light. We enhanced each window with a swing arm sconce. For the paint colors, we opted to have the trim be darker for a warmer appearance that lets the home be bright and without being stark. Keystone Gray SW7504 was selected for the trim with Agreeable Gray SW 7029 as the wall color.
