Window Treatments can amplify a room in so many ways, it’s not hard to see why they are our favorite addition to a room. We often hear clients say they do not want to block their view, but when used correctly, they enhance the view. Think of your view like a piece of art. The right frame on a piece of art can completely change the feeling of the piece of art, and it’s the same for your beautiful view. But that’s not all window treatments are good for. They can also provide privacy, sun protection, and more. That’s why we strive to layer function with beauty.
When designing window treatments we address the window in two ways. First, how does the room function? Is there glare? Where does the sun rise and set? Is there a lot of heat gain or loss in this room? Is privacy an issue? Once we’ve asked these questions, we then look to how we can make it beautiful. Often this is achieved with a functional layer, and a decorative layer that combines to create a beautiful addition to the space.
For this design, the formal dining room looked out to the street, and the home owners requested privacy that they could open and still allow light. Hunter Douglas Silhouettes were used to provide a light-filtering glow that still provides privacy when needed. These can also go up in the head rail completely. For the transom windows, custom faux-iron inserts with a design that complements the new globe chandelier was used throughout the open-concept home. A textural faux silk in an adobe clay color was used for the floor to ceiling custom drapery panels, hanging from a antique bronze metal rod and rings that brings the finish from the chandelier and the finish of the faux iron. Together these layers provide visual interest, function, and architectural details that take this home to a new level. To read more about this project head to this page.
