Got Glare? Here’s How to Fix It!

It’s that time of year – the first of the year after all of the decorations come down for a fresh clean slate! The days have limited sunlight, and it’ s cold which can cause drafty air at your windows and raise your electricity bill to compensate for the cold – not to mention unexpected sun-glare. Believe it or not even this limited amount of sunlight still has uv rays which can damage your floors and furniture. The good news is that with the right window treatments you can have energy savings and reduce both the glare and sun damage in your home. If you’ve ever moved a rug and noticed a color difference of your floor underneath it, that’s a clear sign that new window treatments will help protect your home.

There are many different types of window treatment solutions to suggest based on your individual needs. Here’s a few to consider:

  • Roller shades can give a clean modern look that can range in light filtration from a sheer screen shade to room darkening. These are often cost effective and have minimal headrail requirements.
  • Cellular shades are the most energy efficient by capturing heat in the cell pockets before it enters the room. These are applicable for almost any window, now even uniquely shaped windows can have functioning shades.
  • Sheer shadings (such as Silhouette, Pirouette, Banded Shades from Hunter Douglas) are also an option that can provide both light filtering view through and privacy based on the tilt of the fabric vanes. These can also add an ethereal glow to a room.
  • Woven Woods or Fabric Roman Shades can add interest and texture to a window while also providing function. With attached linings, these can also range from sheer to room darkening.
  • Shutters can provide an architectural element to the window and provide solid light protection, but also can limit the amount of view and natural light that the window can provide. These are often the most expensive solution, but also long lasting with options in solid wood or polysatin, the later can be placed in moist environments and even motorized.

Plus with home automation, the thought of raising and lowering your shades can happen automatically for you, just program your shades to do so based on the placement of the sun – or we can do that for you! Need more than one solution? Layering might be the perfect solution for you to provide multi-function, like in the image above.
