It’s official! You’ve closed on your new home, and it’s filled with possibilities. You love the paint colors, the finishes, the layout, the location. It’s simply perfect, and you can’t wait to move in. Then you move your existing furniture in and it’s starting to fall apart. Your sofa doesn’t match, the rugs are too small, and every window needs privacy or something to stop the glare in the morning. Never fear, we’re here to help! We can help you at your pace to achieve a cohesive balance between the furniture and selections you’d like to keep and the new style of the home you just moved into. Whether room by room, the whole house, or floor by floor, we provide designs curated for you and your lifestyle and budget.
During our complimentary consultation that we offer for all new clients, we analyze both the space and your pieces, while actively listening to what you love and don’t love about your home. Through this we will be able to provide a roadmap to make your new home feel cohesive with your existing pieces and new selections to bring it all together. While we’re talking together during that first appointment, here are some of the considerations we’re thinking about for your current furniture:
- A Fresh Perspective on Pieces – We can incorporate heirloom pieces with current furniture by pulling out the colors or shapes of the piece, or by letting it stand alone as a piece of art. If it’s important to you, we also want it to feel important in the space, not tucked away. Perhaps it’s a dresser as a hallway piece, or as an entertainment center, there’s many options. Just because a piece has always been in your guest room, doesn’t mean it needs to stay there in your new home too.
- Furniture Sets – Break up the furniture set, it’s okay, really. Especially if it’s a combination of furniture that has been paired together for a few houses now. Using your furniture in a new way can make it feel fresh again. The same thought continues with keeping the whole furniture set. Just because you have the whole collection, doesn’t mean that the whole set still serves you in your new home. It’s okay to consign it, you have our permission.
- Honesty – Sometimes it really doesn’t match, and we’ll be honest about that. This means you’re at a crossroads, find a new home for the piece at odds to keep the feeling of the home, or hard pivot and get really eclectic with your style to incorporate the piece in. Both are valid directions to go and it’s based on your individual tolerance and style preferences. But also consider, do you really love that piece or are you just used to it?
- Your Needs – What drew you to this home, the lighting, the architecture? Let’s recapture that. Sometimes the current furniture doesn’t function the way you need it to in the new space, or you’re using two or three pieces, when one multifunction piece would feel more seamless and complete.
